Candle-Lighting Ceremony Held on International Day of Police Cooperation

A candle-lighting ceremony was held in Kathmandu on the occasion of the International Day of Police Cooperation under the chief guestship of Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki.

The programme was organized by the Interpol Section under the Crime Investigation Department of Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal.

The ceremony also paid tribute to Nepali citizens who lost their lives in the Bhotekoshi flood and to Nepal Police personnel and other security personnel who died in the line of duty. The tribute was held as Nepal observed national mourning and as 13 days had passed since the Bhotekoshi disaster.

During the programme, Inspector General Karki inaugurated a documentary based on real incidents highlighting the practical importance of international police cooperation. The documentary presents how coordination, information sharing and collaboration among police organizations of different countries contribute to criminal investigation and the control of transnational crime.

The International Day of Police Cooperation is observed every year on September 7. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the day in 2022 with the objective of strengthening cooperation, information exchange and coordination among police organizations worldwide and enhancing their contribution to combating transnational crime and maintaining peace and security.

Additional Inspectors General of Police, Deputy Inspectors General, senior police officers, journalists and other invited guests attended the programme.
