Chinese President Xi Jinping Arrives in United States, Welcomed by Trump at Airport

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at Joint Base Andrews near Washington on Wednesday afternoon for a state visit to the United States. US President Donald Trump personally welcomed him at the airport.

Xi was accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan. President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greeted the Chinese presidential couple beside their aircraft. The planeside welcome formed a significant part of the official reception for the visit.

The welcoming ceremony included a gun salute and the playing of the national anthems of China and the United States. Xi’s state visit marks a further round of high-level diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
