Russian and Brazilian Foreign Ministers Discuss International Coordination and Bilateral Cooperation at UN General Assembly

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira held talks in New York on September 23 on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The two ministers held an in-depth discussion on coordinating their positions on key international issues.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers exchanged views on international affairs, taking into account the outcomes of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. They also discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, along with the schedule of planned high-level contacts.

During the meeting, Vieira outlined preparations for Brazil’s upcoming general elections. Both ministers emphasized the importance of ensuring that people can freely express their political will without external interference in their country’s internal affairs.

The Russian Foreign Ministry described the meeting as taking place in a traditionally constructive atmosphere of mutual trust. According to the ministry, the two ministers also affirmed that Russia and Brazil, both countries with centuries-old historical traditions, share a commitment to preserving history and rejecting arbitrary interpretations of it.
