Russian and Algerian Foreign Ministers Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf held talks in New York on September 23. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focused on practical measures to further strengthen the enhanced strategic partnership between Russia and Algeria.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers exchanged detailed views on opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation and the schedule of upcoming contacts at various levels. Both expressed satisfaction with the mutual trust characterizing their political dialogue and the cooperation established between the two countries, both bilaterally and in multilateral forums.

The ministers also discussed current regional developments. They emphasized the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic means to resolve ongoing conflicts and reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining effective coordination toward that objective.

Russia and Algeria reiterated that efforts to resolve regional conflicts should be based on universally recognized principles of international law and the United Nations Charter. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the meeting reaffirmed the two countries’ shared intention to advance their strategic partnership through bilateral cooperation and diplomatic coordination on regional and international issues.
