Russia and Egypt Discuss Strategic Cooperation and Persian Gulf Crisis on UN General Assembly Sidelines

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks in New York on September 23. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focused on bilateral relations, trade and economic cooperation, major infrastructure projects and the crisis in the Persian Gulf.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers reviewed key aspects of the multifaceted cooperation between their countries. Both emphasized the importance of maintaining political dialogue, expanding trade and economic relations, and implementing major joint infrastructure projects. They also exchanged views on preparations for upcoming joint events.

The ministers held detailed discussions on the crisis in the Persian Gulf following US and Israeli military operations against Iran. The Russian Foreign Ministry characterized those operations as unprovoked aggression. Both ministers stressed the importance of restoring lasting and sustainable peace in the region through political and diplomatic means.

Lavrov and Abdelatty reaffirmed the need to maintain close foreign policy coordination between Moscow and Cairo. They expressed their commitment to continuing dialogue and cooperation on matters of shared interest at the United Nations and other international forums.

The meeting highlighted the importance of political dialogue, economic cooperation and infrastructure development in Russia–Egypt relations, alongside diplomatic coordination on peace and security in the Middle East.
