CSTO Foreign Ministers Discuss Eurasian Security Architecture and Multipolarity at Russia-Chaired Meeting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov chaired a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states in New York on September 23. The traditional meeting, held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focused on Eurasian security architecture, regional developments and stronger coordination among member states in international forums.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers held an in-depth exchange of views on prospects for building a Eurasian security architecture based on the principles of equality and indivisible security. The discussion also covered the drafting of a Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century.

The foreign ministers reviewed current international and regional security challenges, paying particular attention to developments within the CSTO’s area of responsibility. They emphasized the importance of maintaining regular consultations and coordination among member states on matters of shared security concern.

The meeting highlighted the need to coordinate the efforts of CSTO member states in international forums, particularly the United Nations. The ministers also stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the CSTO and the UN.

The foreign ministers reviewed preparations for a major event under Russia’s CSTO chairmanship. The next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council is scheduled to take place in Moscow on November 11, 2026.
