Nepal–China Friendship Must Be Felt in People’s Lives

Editorial

The relationship between Nepal and China has a long history. Trade, culture, education and contact between their peoples have connected the two countries across the Himalayas. The areas of cooperation have expanded over time. Yet the true value of any friendship lies not only in formal declarations, but in the difference it makes to people’s lives in both countries.

The National Day of the People’s Republic of China offers an opportunity to consider how this relationship can become warmer, closer and more effective. Nepal needs reliable transport links, easier trade, opportunities in education and technology, and cooperation in disaster risk reduction. As work with China advances in these areas, local needs and the interests of citizens must remain central. An open road in a border community, an opportunity for a student to study, or timely assistance for a disaster-affected settlement are tangible results of friendship.

The exchange of accurate information between the peoples of the two countries is equally important. The media can help address incomplete perceptions and share useful experiences. Dragon Media holds the friendly relationship between Nepal and China in high regard. To strengthen understanding at the people-to-people level, it prepares and publishes at least ten news reports, articles and other pieces of content every day. This continuing work is driven by our own initiative, effort and editorial commitment.

Supporting friendship does not mean confining coverage to praise. Successful examples of cooperation deserve attention, as do problems in implementation, difficulties in border areas and citizens’ expectations. Reporting grounded in verified facts makes achievements more credible and draws attention to areas that need improvement. Journalism that respects both countries has room for such open, factual discussion.

Nepal–China relations must remain grounded in sovereign equality and mutual respect. Gratitude for assistance received in difficult times is natural. Turning that support into a lasting partnership requires clear plans and an assessment of results. Cooperation in education, culture, tourism, science, climate adaptation and disaster management will become more useful when local communities have a greater part in it.

On the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Dragon Media extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Chinese people and leadership. We also offer our best wishes on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March. We wish the Chinese people peace, prosperity and continued progress, and hope that Nepal–China friendship will bring even greater benefits to the people of both countries in the years ahead.
