Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for advancing with firm confidence and taking concrete steps to achieve national rejuvenation. He made the remarks at a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 30.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation was unstoppable. He expressed confidence that success would belong to the Party, the Chinese people and the People’s Republic of China if they remained confident, focused on their goals and advanced steadily.

According to Xinhua, Xi said China had achieved two remarkable accomplishments under the Party’s leadership over the past 77 years: rapid economic growth and enduring social stability. He expressed pride in New China’s achievements and full confidence in the prospects of Chinese modernization.

Xi said the Chinese economy had continued to progress despite mounting pressure this year, achieving innovation-driven, high-quality development. He called for sustaining its resilience and vitality while taking practical measures to safeguard and improve people’s livelihoods.

He stressed the need to meet the year’s targets and tasks to ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan, covering 2026–2030. Innovation-driven, high-quality and sound economic development must continue, he said.

On Hong Kong and Macao, Xi reaffirmed commitment to the “one country, two systems” policy, under which their residents administer their respective regions with a high degree of autonomy. He said the central government would support their fuller integration into national development while maintaining their long-term prosperity and stability.

Xi also called for deeper exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait. He urged opposition to separatist forces seeking “Taiwan independence” and to external interference, while promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations to advance national reunification.

On foreign policy, Xi said China would maintain its independent foreign policy of peace. It would advance its four major global initiatives and promote a community with a shared future for humanity, contributing greater certainty and positive energy to a turbulent world.

Premier Li Qiang presided over the reception, which was attended by Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, alongside approximately 800 guests. China observes its National Day on October 1.
