China’s J-10CE fighter jet has been displayed at the sixth Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition. Chinese military affairs expert Zhang Junshe said its appearance reflects growing regional interest in Chinese aviation equipment and air combat systems. However, no agreement for Azerbaijan to purchase the J-10CE has been confirmed.

The ADEX-2026 exhibition opened at the Baku Expo Center on September 30. Alongside the J-10CE, the display includes the L-15A advanced trainer aircraft, Y-20 transport aircraft, Z-20 helicopter and Wing Loong series of unmanned aerial vehicles. China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation, representing the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, made its first appearance at the exhibition with a range of aviation equipment, Global Times reported. A photo released by AVIC shows a J-10CE model bearing Azerbaijan’s national flag.

According to Zhang, the J-10CE’s combat capabilities, particularly in beyond-visual-range air combat and air-superiority operations, have increased its appeal in international markets. He said that when paired with PL-15 series air-to-air missiles, the aircraft can use its long-range detection and engagement capabilities.

Azerbaijan has already inducted the JF-17 Block III, jointly developed by China and Pakistan. In November 2025, five JF-17 aircraft took part in an aerial display at an Azerbaijani military parade. Pakistan said in 2024 that it had signed an agreement to sell JF-17 Block III aircraft to Azerbaijan.

Zhang said that if Azerbaijan eventually acquires the J-10CE, operating it alongside the JF-17 could help integrate the country’s air combat system. He said the combination could also support efforts to replace aging Soviet-era aircraft and modernize the air force.

Interest in Chinese fighter jets has also been reported elsewhere. J-10CE aircraft bearing Uzbek military markings appeared in an official broadcast of an event marking Uzbekistan’s independence anniversary in August. Indonesia’s defense minister said in October 2025 that the country was preparing to acquire J-10 aircraft from China. Zhang said these developments reflect the expanding influence of Chinese aviation equipment and air combat systems.
