Russia Accuses Ukraine of Raising Nuclear Accident Risk at Zaporizhzhia Plant

Dragon Media News Desk
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused Ukraine of continuing attacks on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and related facilities, saying they could disrupt the plant’s operations and increase the risk of a serious nuclear accident.
In a statement issued on October 5, Zakharova said a Ukrainian drone struck Laboratory and Support Building No. 2 on October 4, about 200 metres from the plant’s reactor units. She also said the radioactive waste processing building was shelled twice that day. According to her, an attack on the facility could damage equipment needed for the safe handling of radioactive materials.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that a truck carrying food supplies for plant personnel was targeted near Melitopol on October 4, killing the driver. Zakharova extended condolences to the driver’s family and loved ones.
She accused Western countries of encouraging further attacks by continuing to supply weapons to Ukraine and called on the leadership of the International Atomic Energy Agency to condemn what she described as Kyiv’s actions.
Ukraine’s response to the allegations was not included in the statement. The claims have not been independently verified.
