Putin to Visit Turkmenistan on October 8–9

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on October 8 and 9. During the visit, he will attend a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Caspian Environmental Summit. Both events will be held in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone.
At the CIS Council meeting, leaders will review cooperation among member states, set priorities for further joint work and exchange views on current international and regional issues. The CIS is marking its 35th anniversary this year.
Documents are expected to be adopted to expand cooperation in law enforcement, culture, humanitarian affairs and information, and to strengthen foreign policy coordination among member states.
At the Caspian Environmental Summit, the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will discuss practical aspects of environmental cooperation among the Caspian littoral states. Their talks will include measures to prevent the decline in the Caspian Sea’s water level and to preserve its biological resources.
Putin is also scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings during the visit.
