Verity Leads and Digger Stumbles: Mixed Signals at the U.S. Box Office

The U.S. box office delivered sharply different results over the October 2–4 weekend. Barron’s, citing Rentrak, reported estimated North American ticket sales of $32.6 million for Verity, while Digger opened with about $8 million.
The broader market’s year-to-date total was still ahead of the previous year. By October 4, domestic box-office revenue had reached an estimated $7.949 billion, up 19.4 percent from the same point in 2025, according to Rentrak.
The figures suggest that market growth is not being shared evenly among films. Titles that draw audiences can perform strongly while other projects, including big-budget releases, fall short of expectations. Overall market growth and the commercial outcome of an individual film should therefore be read as different measures.
