Rising Costs Put Trump’s Economic Policies Under Scrutiny

Dragon Media News Desk

A Reuters/Ipsos poll suggests that American voters are increasingly holding President Donald Trump’s policies responsible for the rising cost of living. Fifty-seven percent of Republicans who support Trump said their expenses were growing faster than their incomes.

On October 8, the average U.S. price of gasoline reached $4.36 per gallon, up from $3.11 at the same time last year. Diesel reached $6.28 per gallon. Higher fuel costs also put pressure on transportation, farming and food prices.

The administration has blamed the war with Iran and volatility in energy markets for rising costs. But respondents to the Reuters/Ipsos poll also pointed to import tariffs and other government policies as contributing factors. Having promised to lower prices, the administration now faces a direct test of its policies as fuel and food costs continue to weigh on household budgets.
