Russia Has Not Confirmed Energy Ceasefire Agreement, Lavrov Says

Dragon Media News Desk

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has not confirmed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure. Speaking to the media after talks with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji on October 12, Lavrov said reporters could refer to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s response.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the two countries had agreed to halt strikes on energy facilities. Zelenskyy said he had not been informed of such an agreement and that Ukraine was ready for a ceasefire if Russia also observed it. Lavrov said Russia would continue pursuing the declared objectives of its military operation in Ukraine. He argued that a temporary ceasefire could give Ukraine time to regroup and said Moscow would not rely on assurances.

On Lebanon, Lavrov said Russia shared Beirut’s view that a United Nations contingent should remain in southern Lebanon beyond 2026, potentially with a different structure and powers. He said its mandate should include maintaining peace and documenting violations. The two sides also agreed to resume the work of the Russian-Lebanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation as soon as possible.
