His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev has called for the swift rehabilitation of disaster-affected people, good governance and national unity in his Vijaya Dashami 2083 greeting. In the message issued by Nirmal Niwas on Asoj 30, His Majesty expressed concern over the country’s political, constitutional, judicial, economic, social and administrative conditions.
Referring to the extensive damage caused by floods in the Bhotekoshi and Budhigandaki areas and persistent rainfall in several districts, His Majesty described the suffering caused by disasters as a shared national concern. He said priority should be given to rebuilding damaged infrastructure and promptly resettling affected citizens.

His Majesty also stressed the need for diplomatic tact when accepting foreign assistance, so that Nepal’s national dignity and local traditions are preserved. Describing Nepal as a shared history, faith, culture and identity, he said standing with citizens suffering in other regions and placing national interests above personal interests constitute true patriotism.
The message raised questions about the country’s disorder, decline across several sectors and weakening economy, identifying poor governance, instability and the weakening of democratic processes as challenges. His Majesty called for protecting national unity and the country’s traditional values, and for ensuring that capable, qualified and impartial people play a greater role in state affairs.
He also called for a balanced relationship with nature, conservation, and stronger preparedness to reduce disaster risks. Urging people to turn grief into strength and despair into hope, His Majesty wished that the Navadurga would guide all toward truth, justice and strength.
