A total of 80,000 native fish fry have been released into rivers in Zamthang County, China, as part of efforts to restore aquatic ecosystems.

The release was organised recently under the leadership of the county’s Science and Technology, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau. The county court and procuratorate supervised the process. Authorities said the fish fry underwent disease screening, quality selection and standards verification before release.

The fish are native to the Zamthang River. They are considered important to maintaining water quality, supporting the food chain and preserving the river’s ecological balance.

The county said it would continue monitoring local waterways and conducting patrols, while taking action against illegal activities. The efforts aim to consolidate progress in aquatic ecosystem restoration and strengthen ecological protection of rivers and lakes in the highland region.
