Former Deputy Speaker and lawmaker Indira Rana Magar has said Nepal can learn from China’s Xizang region in cultural heritage and environmental conservation, as well as modern development.
Speaking at an event organised in Kathmandu on Friday by the Saino Nepal Cultural and Tourism Promotion Society, she said Xizang’s practice of linking cultural preservation with employment and tourism could offer useful lessons for Nepal.
Laxmi Prasad Niraula, Nepal’s Consul General in Lhasa, said Nepal should build on its close social and cultural ties with Xizang to promote tourism. He added that Nepal could learn from the region’s railway, tunnel and modern infrastructure development.
Mohan Kumar Tamang, a member of a Nepali delegation that recently returned from Xizang, called for greater promotion of the historical links between monasteries and Buddhist heritage sites in Nepal and Xizang. Artist Raju Poudel and senior journalist Deepak Rijal also said Nepal could learn from Xizang’s practices in heritage conservation, cleanliness, discipline and infrastructure development.
