Workers are busy harvesting chili peppers in Maxiang Village, Wujiao Town, Jiuzhaigou County, Sichuan Province, China. The crop has done well this year across 67 mu—about 4.47 hectares—and workers are picking, sorting and packaging the peppers.
The village expects total production to reach 2.2 million jin this year. At half a kilogram per jin, that is about 1,100 tonnes. So far, 1.6 million jin, or around 800 tonnes, have been sold, local officials said.
In recent years, Wujiao Town has prioritised expanding vegetable production. Local residents have found work through business-led initiatives and the development of cultivation bases. The local government says vegetable farming has become a source of increased income for villagers.
