Russia Warns of Response to Any Attack on Kaliningrad

Dragon Media News Desk

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has warned that any armed attack on Russia’s Kaliningrad Region would trigger a severe response, while accusing Poland and NATO of preparing military scenarios involving the region.

Speaking on October 16, Zakharova referred to NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone’s statement that NATO had no plans to blockade Kaliningrad. She said she hoped the admiral was sincere, then cited a speech by NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus Grynkewich at the Warsaw Security Forum on October 12.

Zakharova alleged that Poland’s military had developed plans for pre-emptive strikes against Kaliningrad if a war with Russia became inevitable. She said the plans involved targeting military infrastructure, including missile systems, ammunition depots, fuel facilities and command posts, and could use HIMARS and Homar-K systems, F-16 aircraft and drones.

She also claimed that the plans included a naval blockade and a ground offensive in the Suwałki Gap. The claims were presented by Zakharova; the statement provided no supporting documentation or response from Polish or NATO officials.

Zakharova compared the alleged plans to “Operation Barbarossa 2.0” and said Russia would respond to any attack using all means at its disposal. She warned that such a conflict would be “very short.”
