Zhagana Village Draws Visitors as Autumn Begins

Dragon Media Newsroom
Zhagana, a village in Tewo County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, has drawn visitors as autumn begins. Even as the summer holiday season neared its end in late August, tourists from across China came to admire the mountains, forests and traditional Tibetan settlements, and to take photographs.

The village sits at an average elevation of about 3,000 metres above sea level. Summer temperatures average below 20°C, making the climate cool and pleasant. Its striking landscape features high peaks, green forested slopes, streams flowing through deep valleys and traditional Tibetan villages nestled at the foot of the mountains.

Visitors have been taking in the mountain scenery and village views from local lookout points, using mobile phones and cameras to capture the landscape. The early autumn season offers an opportunity to experience both the highland scenery and Tibetan village life.
“Zhagana” means “stone box” in Tibetan. In 2023, UN Tourism included the village in its “Best Tourism Villages” list, bringing wider international attention to the historic mountain settlement.
