Bada Dashain’s Main Day Today; Auspicious Tika Time Set for 10:26 a.m.

Today is Vijaya Dashami, the main day of Bada Dashain. People are celebrating by receiving tika, jamara and blessings from their elders. For those wishing to apply tika at the auspicious hour, the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Development Committee has set 10:26 a.m. as the most auspicious time. The committee has also set 8:49 a.m. for the ritual immersion of the goddess.

Committee Chair Professor Purushottam Bhattarai said Vijaya Dashami itself is an auspicious day, so members of the public do not need to wait for a specific time to receive tika. According to religious scholars, the person receiving tika should face west, while the person applying it should face east.

Many people apply red tika made from rice grains, yogurt and vermilion, while some communities follow their family traditions and apply white tika. The day is also an occasion for family gatherings and for receiving blessings along with tika and jamara from elders.
