King Gyanendra Shah Will Not Offer Tika to the Public This Year

King Gyanendra Shah will not offer tika and jamara to members of the public on Vijaya Dashami this year. His Secretariat said in a notice that no public tika ceremony would be held.

The Secretariat said the decision to observe Bada Dashain simply was made in view of the heavy loss of life and property caused by flooding in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa in August and persistent rainfall in October. The disasters displaced thousands of people and claimed hundreds of lives, it said.

The Secretariat expressed sympathy for families affected by the disasters and said the public tika and jamara ceremony had been called off because of the difficult circumstances.
