Workers are maintaining irrigation facilities in the Shannan section of an afforestation project covering mountainous areas between Lhasa and Shannan in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. The photograph, taken on October 17, shows workers repairing an irrigation facility in Shannan City.

Ahead of the year’s first winter irrigation, crews have conducted forest and grassland fire-prevention patrols, removed flammable materials, opened firebreaks and inspected and repaired irrigation facilities.

Launched in 2022, the project had completed afforestation across 317,500 mu—about 21,166.67 hectares—by 2026 and generated more than 2.15 million job opportunities.
