Dragon Media News Desk

A journey exploring eight major tourist destinations in Tibet’s Lhokha region will introduce visitors to the origins of Tibetan civilisation, its cultural traditions and its natural beauty.

Known as the cradle of Tibetan civilisation, Lhokha is home to Yumbu Lhakhang, regarded as Tibet’s first palace, as well as its first cultivated field and first museum. These historic sites offer a glimpse into the development of Tibetan civilisation and the traditions shaped over centuries.

Lhokha’s appeal extends beyond its historical landmarks. The golden barley fields of the Yarlung Valley, together with its mountains and lakes, create a striking landscape. The energetic drumbeats of Chongye’s Jiu dance and traditional Tibetan rugs reflect the region’s culture and way of life.

Visitors can learn how incense is made from local artisans, try traditional weaving and sample local food. Barley wine, Tibetan thukpa, meat-filled bread and potatoes from Ong are among the region’s distinctive dishes.

With its ancient heritage, scenic landscapes and living traditions, Lhokha offers visitors an opportunity to experience Tibet’s history and contemporary life up close.
