Former President Bhandari Leaves for China to Attend Global Governance Forum

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari left for China on Thursday to attend the 2026 Global Governance Forum. She is scheduled to address the forum as a distinguished guest. The event will be held from October 23 to 25 in Xiong’an New Area, Hebei Province.

The forum’s theme is “Rebuilding Confidence and Cooperation in a Changing World.” Discussions will cover the United Nations-centred international system, global peace, reforms needed for peacekeeping and the promotion of multilateralism.

Other topics include the growing role of developing countries, the Global South’s participation in international trade, climate change, low-carbon development, sustainable development, artificial intelligence and cyberspace.

Parallel sessions, panel discussions and roundtables are scheduled for October 24 and 25. Bhandari is expected to return to Nepal on Monday, her secretariat said.
