United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned Houthi attacks targeting civilians in Saudi Arabia, calling them unacceptable. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and seek a political solution to the conflict in Yemen.

In a message on social media, Guterres said the attacks were causing suffering among civilians and increasing regional tensions. He stressed that Yemen’s crisis requires a political solution.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament has adopted a motion urging the European Union to designate the Houthi movement as a terrorist organisation. The motion calls for the group’s political and military wings, leadership and security structures to be included on the list, and for its financial resources and the funds and assets of those supporting it to be frozen.

Yemen’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the motion, describing it as an important step toward protecting civilians, promoting regional stability and ensuring safe passage through international waterways.

The European Parliament’s motion said Houthi attacks had increased civilian deaths and displacement in Yemen and worsened the humanitarian crisis. It also condemned missile and unmanned-aircraft attacks against Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Iraq also condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabia and said its territory must not be used by any party to launch attacks. According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein conveyed the condemnation during a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, citing damage to civilians and public infrastructure.
