Russia says US First Lady Melania Trump made a significant contribution to securing an agreement for a humanitarian operation in Alyoshki, in Ukraine’s Kherson Region.

In a statement issued on October 23, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova and her Ukrainian counterpart had worked extensively, with Trump’s direct involvement, to implement agreements reached by the Russian and US presidents.

Representatives of the two countries’ defence ministries are coordinating the timing of a ceasefire to enable the mission, the statement said. The Russian Defence Ministry had earlier announced that firing in the Kherson direction would stop and a “silence regime” would begin at 4 a.m. Moscow time on October 27.

Residents who wish to leave the city will be able to do so, according to the statement. Peskov said the mission required extensive preparations involving representatives from various sides, with Trump playing a coordinating role. He added that the issue had been discussed during the latest telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
