A humanitarian initiative in Belarus has reunited 12 families, with seven people returning to Russia and seven to Ukraine, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova said.
In a social media post on October 23, Lantratova said the 14 people had been able to return to their respective countries. Among them were older people who had been separated from their families, as well as people unable to return earlier because of document-related problems or a lack of support and resources.
The initiative was made possible through agreements with the Ukrainian side and assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross, Lantratova said. She stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue to find solutions on humanitarian matters and thanked Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
