Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova says Russia and Ukraine are honouring their commitments for a planned humanitarian mission in Alyoshki, in the Kherson region. She said she and Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets had discussed the coordinated arrangements and that preparations were proceeding as agreed.

The White House said a localized ceasefire had been agreed to allow humanitarian aid into Alyoshki and to prepare for the safe evacuation of civilians. The agreement was facilitated by US First Lady Melania Trump.

Public announcements differ on when the ceasefire will begin. The White House set the start date as October 29, while Russia’s chief of the General Staff announced a ceasefire in the Kherson direction from the morning of October 27. Lubinets also cited October 27.

Russian officials have described the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki as critical, saying shelling and drone attacks have impeded deliveries of food and medicine. The planned mission is intended to deliver aid and enable civilians to leave through a safe passage.
