Home Minister Sudhan Gurung Resigns Following Bhatta Controversy

KATHMANDU — Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has finally resigned from his position. After discussions with Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah, he announced his resignation through social media.
Gurung stated that he resigned effective today to ensure a fair investigation into the controversies raised against him. He wrote on social media, “I have resigned from the post of Home Minister effective from today, with the aim of ensuring a fair investigation into matters related to me and to avoid any conflict of interest that might affect my position.”
Gurung was drawn into controversy after his business partnership with broker Dipak Bhatta was revealed. Following the public disclosure of the matter, widespread demands were raised that he should resign. After prolonged pressure, Gurung was ultimately compelled to step down.
This development signals a major change in the government’s leadership at the Home Ministry.
