Man Killed in Shooting in Northern Melbourne

A 55-year-old man has died after being shot in Reservoir, a northern suburb of Melbourne. Police are investigating whether the attack was targeted.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, police said. Reservoir is 11 km north of central Melbourne.

Police said the man’s death was being treated as suspicious and that homicide detectives were investigating. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) identified the victim as Elias Serevetas. ABC reported that he was lured out of a relative’s home and shot several times in the upper body.

A black Lexus believed to have been used by the gunman was found burnt out in nearby Thomastown shortly after the shooting. A white Toyota Corolla was seen leaving the scene of the fire, ABC reported.

Police were also investigating the victim’s possible links to serious and organized crime, and whether the killing was connected to other recent shootings in Melbourne, ABC reported.

The gunman remained at large as of Wednesday afternoon.
