Trump’s Controversial Remark: “India and China are Hellholes, the Melting Pot is Over”

Washington D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has made controversial remarks, calling India and China “hellholes.” In a letter made public on social media, he criticized the system of birthright citizenship and made strong statements against these countries.
Trump claimed that the influence of the Indian and Chinese communities in California’s tech sector has grown excessively, stating, “A baby born here becomes a citizen instantly, and then they bring their entire family here from the hellholes of India, China, and other countries around the world.”
He declared that the old American immigration concept of the “melting pot” is over. “It is no longer a melting pot. It has become just a cash-in pot,” he said. He also called for strong legal action against the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Trump argued that an issue as important as birthright citizenship should not be left to courts and lawyers, but should be decided through a nationwide referendum. He had previously attempted to issue an executive order to end birthright citizenship in January 2025, but a federal court temporarily blocked it. The matter remains in legal process.
The U.S. Fourteenth Amendment (ratified in 1868) grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil. According to a 2022 report by the Pew Research Center, approximately 1.6 million children of Indian origin have obtained U.S. citizenship through this provision.
