Lebanese Journalist Amal Khalil Killed: Zakharova Condemns Western ‘Rules-Based’ Order as ‘Hideous Manifestation’

Moscow — Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned the targeted killing of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil of Al Akhbar by the Israeli military, calling it a grave crime and expressing concern for the safety of media professionals.

On April 22, Amal Khalil was killed in her own country, Lebanon, in a targeted strike by the Israeli military. Zakharova noted that the attack occurred during what was announced as a ceasefire — though apparently only on paper. The blast was so powerful that her body could only be recovered with great difficulty from beneath the rubble of the collapsed multi-storey building. Her colleague, journalist Zeinab Faraj, sustained severe injuries.

Zakharova described the incident as a new victim of the information war — a confrontation between the noble mission of bringing the truth to the public and the bloodthirsty desire to strangle that truth, blow it up, and wipe it off the face of the earth by any means.

She stated that this brutal killing, like the deaths of other journalists who have died in the line of duty, is a grave crime for which there can be no justification. Zakharova said this is a hideous manifestation of the world order glorified by the West — one supposedly based on unwritten “rules,” but in reality built on lies, contempt for international law, permissiveness, the cult of violence, and a belief in its own exceptionalism.

Zakharova extended her sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased journalist.
