572 Penalized in Surprise Checking: Five for Drunk Driving, 19 for Running Red Lights, 41 for Lane Discipline Violations

Kathmandu — A total of 572 drivers were penalized across the Kathmandu Valley on Saturday during “surprise checking” conducted under a special campaign by the traffic police.

According to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, five individuals were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. Likewise, 19 drivers were penalized for violating red lights, 41 for failing to observe lane discipline, and 507 others for breaching various other traffic rules, the division stated.

The police have urged everyone to refrain from unlawful and punishable acts and to remain mindful of the safety of the drivers themselves, passengers, and all road users. Passengers have also been requested to immediately report to the nearest police station, the Traffic Control Room hotline at 103, or the police hotline at 100 if they suspect a driver has consumed alcohol or drugs.
