China Approves 15 New Disciplines Including ‘Future Robotics’ and ‘Brain-Machine Science’

Kathmandu — China’s Ministry of Education has approved 15 interdisciplinary undergraduate programmes in response to the evolving needs of national strategies and industrial development.

The ministry has included disciplines such as “Future Robotics” and “Brain-Machine Science and Technology” in its latest catalog of undergraduate majors for general colleges and universities. These new programmes have been introduced to better adapt to the development of emerging fields and the growing demand for well-rounded talent, according to the ministry.

New majors such as “Energy Science and Engineering” and “Deep Earth Science and Engineering” have also been added to the catalog to align with the country’s strategic needs. Similarly, disciplines including “Agricultural Robotics,” “Biomanufacturing,” “Digital Culture and Tourism,” and “Digital Trade” have been included to serve the needs of different industries.

Furthermore, the ministry has provided support to nine universities and colleges in establishing majors in “Embodied Intelligence,” aiming to promote the deep integration of the new generation of artificial intelligence with the real economy and empower high-quality economic and social development.
