Gyizin Lhamtso Emerges as a Symbol of Love: Youth Flock to Turquoise Highland Lake

Lhasa. The gate-opening ceremony of Gyizin Lhamtso Lake was held with great fanfare on the morning of May 1, accompanied by the melodious tune of the song “Beloved Gyizin Lhamtso.” Performed by singer Yangjen Lhaze, the song captivated the audience instantly, as the venue swelled with crowds.

The ceremony was further enlivened by a variety of events, including traditional dance performances showcasing local characteristics and exhibitions and sales of indigenous products. Notably, the love vow exchange programme highlighted the unique identity of this location.

Situated at an altitude of over 4,500 meters above sea level, Gyizin Lhamtso is surrounded on all sides by snow-capped mountains, its shape resembling a turquoise bowl. The folk tales intertwined with the sound of its crystal-clear waves have transformed this place into a sacred ground where hopes of love are entrusted. In recent times, the lake has increasingly become a recognized destination for young people to pledge unwavering love and lifelong companionship.

For travelers coming from Lhasa, the lake can be reached via the Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway, exiting through Rutok in the Malgo Gunggar area and continuing onward. If traveling from Lhoka City, one should head from Zetang toward Sangri, pass through Jingphi village of Sangri, and cross the Kundeling meadow to arrive at Gyizin Lhamtso. Regardless of the route taken, visitors have been urged to pay special attention to safety during the journey.
