Spring Flowers Can Also Bring Health Problems: What Is Pollen Allergy and How to Prevent It?

Lhasa. With the arrival of spring, as flowers begin to bloom in abundance all around, joy fills the hearts of many. However, for individuals whose bodies cannot tolerate pollen, this season can become a matter of physical discomfort and anxiety. According to experts, the main reason many people suffer from pollen allergy even without approaching or touching flowers is not the beautiful blossoms themselves, but rather trees that spread pollen through the air, such as pine, cypress, bamboo, and other plants.

Pollen allergy occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to normally harmless substances such as pollen or certain foods. The symptoms vary depending on the route through which pollen enters the body. When pollen enters through the nose, it can cause sneezing, a runny nose, nasal congestion and itching, and difficulty breathing. When it enters through the eyes, symptoms may include itching eyes, a sensation of a foreign body in the eye, frequent eye rubbing, and watery eyes. When it enters through skin contact, red rashes and itching may appear on exposed areas such as the face and neck.

Experts have offered several important suggestions to prevent this problem. First, stay informed about pollen levels and avoid going outdoors when pollen counts are high. Second, wear a mask and glasses when going outside, and upon returning home, immediately wash the face and hands and change clothes. Third, take medication as prescribed by a doctor, and it is advisable to begin taking anti-allergy medication under a doctor’s guidance one to two weeks before any symptoms of bodily discomfort appear. If allergy symptoms do arise, exercising patience while following scientific prevention methods and standard treatment is the key to protecting one’s health during the spring season, experts say.
