Kailali Clinches President’s Running Shield Title with 58 Medals

Dadeldhura – Kailali has won the 16th Sudurpashchim Province-level President’s Running Shield tournament, held in Dadeldhura. Kailali claimed the title with a commanding tally of 32 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze medals, amassing a total of 58 medals.
Kanchanpur finished second with 43 medals, while host Dadeldhura secured third place with 6 gold, 7 silver, and 17 bronze medals, totalling 30. Baitadi came fourth, followed by Darchula (fifth), Bajhang (sixth), Bajura (seventh), Doti (eighth), and Achham (ninth). Throughout the tournament, a total of 232 medals were distributed, comprising 66 gold, 66 silver, and 100 bronze medals.
Addressing the closing ceremony, chief guest and Sudurpashchim Province Minister of State for Social Development, Saraswati Khadka, described sports as a vital platform for nurturing youth talent. She pledged the provincial government’s continued commitment to supporting sports development and enhancing athletes’ capabilities.
The tournament, which commenced on Jestha 14, saw athletes from all nine districts compete in events including athletics, taekwondo, wushu, karate, volleyball, and kabaddi. Outstanding performers will be recommended to compete in this year’s national-level President’s Running Shield. Organisers said the event significantly contributed to fostering mutual goodwill, competitive spirit, and a culture of sports among athletes across the province.
