Tribhuvan Army Club Wins Women’s Five-a-Side Hockey Title

Biratnagar. Departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club has won the title of the GP Koirala Five-a-Side Women’s Hockey Championship.

In the final match held on Saturday at Sayas Futsal Arena in Biratnagar, Army defeated Gandaki Province 5–3 to lift the trophy. With the title, Army received a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

Army claimed the title of the first women’s hockey championship organised in Koshi Province with a strong performance in the final. Nilima Pandey scored a hat-trick for Army, while Sunita Negi added two goals. For Gandaki Province, Mayuri Rai scored twice and Sonu Baral netted one goal.

Army’s Sabina KC was declared Player of the Tournament. Similarly, Laxmaniya Das of Madhesh Province was named the Emerging Player of the championship.

According to Ranjan Thapa of the organising GP Koirala Sports Academy, runner-up Gandaki Province received Rs 30,000.

The championship featured the host team Koshi Province, along with Gandaki Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and departmental side Tribhuvan Army Club. The winning team and outstanding players were awarded by Basanta Aryal, Vice-Chairperson of the Koshi Province Sports Development Board.

Army completed an unbeaten campaign, winning all four matches in the championship. Gandaki Province finished as runner-up with two wins, one draw and one defeat from four matches. The host team Koshi Province remained in fourth place with four points.
