Trump Claims Tren de Aragua Leader Killed in U.S. Military Operation

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the leader of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan-origin criminal group designated by the United States as a terrorist organization, has been killed in a U.S. military operation.

In a statement on Friday, Trump said the U.S. military had killed the leader of Tren de Aragua during a targeted operation. The group, which originated in Venezuela, has been described by U.S. authorities as a transnational criminal network involved in violent crime, human trafficking, extortion, drug trafficking and smuggling.

The United States has listed Tren de Aragua as a terrorist organization, citing its alleged role in cross-border criminal activities and threats to public security.

Trump described the operation as part of Washington’s tougher policy against organized criminal networks. However, detailed information about the location, timing and circumstances of the operation has not been fully released.

There was no immediate detailed public response from Venezuelan authorities regarding the U.S. claim.

The development could further intensify debate over U.S.-Venezuela relations, regional security, transnational crime and the legal basis for U.S. military action against non-state groups.
