UN Warns of Risk of a New HIV Epidemic

Dragon Media News Desk

The United Nations has warned that cuts in funding for HIV programmes could trigger a new global epidemic.

According to TASS, a recent UN report said that reduced financing for HIV prevention, testing and treatment programmes could put previous progress in controlling the virus at risk.

Experts cited in the report said new HIV infections are still increasing in 21 countries. From 2010 to 2025, increases were recorded in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa.

The United Nations warned that the global response to HIV could weaken unless sufficient funding is maintained for prevention and treatment programmes.
