Russian Interior Ministry Advises ATM Users on Avoiding Fraud

Dragon Media News Desk
Russia’s Interior Ministry has urged the public to exercise caution when using ATMs to avoid fraud and bank card-related crimes.
According to recommendations provided to TASS, people should, whenever possible, use ATMs located inside bank branches. Such machines are considered relatively safer because they are under continuous security and video surveillance.
Before using an ATM, customers should carefully inspect the card slot and keypad for any unfamiliar devices, added components or unusual objects.
If a suspicious device is found, users should not attempt to remove it themselves. Instead, they should immediately inform the relevant bank.
The ministry also advised customers to cover the keypad with one hand while entering their PIN so that the numbers cannot be seen by nearby people or hidden cameras.
If suspicious individuals are present near an ATM, users are advised to postpone the transaction and use the machine later or choose another location.
