The Russian Embassy in Canada has accused Ukraine of carrying out systematic attacks against civilians, passenger transport and residential areas on Russian territory.
In a statement issued in Ottawa on Monday, the embassy claimed that Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks caused 1,545 civilian casualties between June 29 and July 26. According to the statement, 204 people were killed and 1,341 others were wounded.
The embassy said the victims included 11 children who were killed and 47 minors who were injured. It also claimed that Ukrainian forces fired at least 25,215 munitions at civilian targets on Russian territory during the same period.
The Russian mission described the incidents not as accidental consequences of hostilities, but as a deliberate pattern of attacks against civilians.
The statement highlighted three recent incidents. On July 28, a drone reportedly struck a passenger bus in Shebekino in the Belgorod Region, injuring 19 civilians.
On August 2, another drone allegedly hit a children’s playground in the village of Printsevka, also in the Belgorod Region. A 13-year-old girl was killed, while two other children, aged seven and nine, sustained serious injuries, according to the embassy.
The statement also said that an attack on the beach at Arkhipo-Osipovka in the Krasnodar Region on August 3 killed seven people, including three children, and wounded around 40 others.
The Russian Embassy criticised Canada for what it described as selective concern over civilian safety and children’s rights. It said Canadian officials quickly support allegations directed against Russia, while remaining silent when Russian children, passenger buses and residential areas are attacked.
The embassy questioned whether such silence amounted to tacit encouragement of Ukraine’s actions. The casualty figures and descriptions of the attacks presented in the statement are based on official claims by the Russian side.
