RSP Leader Questions MP Khagendra Sunar Over Absence from Constituency

A local leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has publicly expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as the prolonged absence of House of Representatives member Khagendra Sunar from Banke Constituency No. 3, from where Sunar was elected.
RSP leader Bikram Oli, who is also a local resident of Banke, posted a satirical “missing notice” on social media, saying Sunar had not been seen in the constituency for a long time. He also remarked that an appropriate reward would be given to anyone who could find the lawmaker and bring him back to the constituency.
Oli urged Sunar to remain in regular contact with the people who elected him and to visit the district to hear their grievances and concerns.
“Our honourable Khagendra Sunar, please come to the district as our representative and listen to the complaints and problems of the people of Banke. One should not forget the people after winning an election. It is time to correct this,” Oli wrote.
In a sharper remark, Oli warned that residents of Banke should not be forced to travel to Kathmandu’s Maitighar or Singha Durbar to look for their elected representative.
“Even animals that graze throughout the day return home in the evening, but one should not forget one’s home, people and responsibilities because of attachment to position or arrogance,” he wrote. “If the people’s voices continue to be ignored, let there not come a situation in which the residents of Banke have to come looking for you in Maitighar or Singha Durbar.”
Oli is associated with the RSP’s legislative deliberation department and was also a representative at the party’s first general convention held in Chitwan. He is also reported to serve as vice-chair of the group known as “Ek Saya Group.”
The dissatisfaction is reportedly not limited to Oli, with some other residents of Banke-3 also beginning to raise questions over Sunar’s limited presence in the constituency.
Sunar was elected to the House of Representatives from Banke-3 as an RSP candidate in the most recent parliamentary election.
While elected representatives have legislative responsibilities in Parliament, they are also expected to maintain regular engagement with constituents, listen to local concerns and represent their interests. The latest public criticism has therefore brought renewed attention to the relationship between lawmakers and the constituencies they represent.
