CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has said the party needs purification, strengthening and transformation in order to become more united ideologically, politically and organizationally.

Addressing a municipal-level gathering in Tarakeshwar, Kathmandu, on Saturday, Pokhrel said the party secretariat had concluded that reorganization was necessary and had formed a task force to prepare an action plan.

According to him, the task force is currently discussing the framework for party reorganization. Once finalized, the plan will be presented through the party’s institutional decision-making process and taken to lower organizational levels.

Pokhrel stressed that local leaders and cadres should not merely wait for instructions from the center but should take their own initiatives to strengthen and organize party work in their respective areas.

He said it becomes difficult to bring cadres back once they drift away from the party, emphasizing the need to maintain stronger organizational ties with members and supporters.

Pokhrel also claimed that the UML has the capacity to confront the country’s present political challenges.

Acknowledging that the party had lost the election, he said it must move forward by understanding the psychology and sentiments of the people.

“We have lost the election, but we must remain committed to moving ahead by understanding the psychology and feelings of the people,” he said.

The UML general secretary emphasized that party reorganization should not be limited to organizational changes alone, but should also involve ideological clarity, political direction and more effective mobilization of party cadres.
