Kaski District Police have detained 20 people from different parts of Pokhara Metropolitan City during an overnight sweep operation and initiated further investigation.

Police teams deployed from the district police office and its subordinate units carried out operations in areas including Prithvi Chowk, Sabhagriha Chowk, Srijana Chowk and Lakeside.

According to police, some of those detained are accused of creating disturbances after consuming alcohol, using marijuana or other narcotic substances, engaging in undesirable activities, and harassing members of the public and tourists.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Kumar Paswan of the Kaski District Police Office said individuals found in less serious cases involving alcohol or cannabis related substances are generally counselled and handed over to their guardians.

However, police said legal action is pursued against individuals with criminal backgrounds, repeat offenders and those who allegedly misbehave with officers during security checks, subject to the available evidence and applicable law.

Kaski Police said the sweep operation has been underway for several months as part of an effort to curb illegal activities, hooliganism and conduct that could disturb public peace and security.

Police have indicated that monitoring and security operations will continue, particularly in areas that experience heavy nighttime activity and large numbers of tourists.
