India–Nepal legal cooperation strengthened through alumni network

The Embassy of India in Kathmandu has brought together Nepali alumni of Indian law institutions as part of an initiative to further strengthen legal and academic cooperation between Nepal and India.

Chief Justice of Nepal Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma attended the event as the chief guest. He is himself an alumnus of an Indian law institution. The programme was also attended by justices of the Supreme Court of Nepal, senior members of the judiciary, former Attorneys General, distinguished legal professionals, academics and young practitioners from the legal community.

A major feature of the event was the launch of the Association of Nepali Alumni of Indian Law Institutions. The association is expected to serve as a platform for expanding professional and institutional engagement among legal scholars, academic institutions, researchers and practitioners from Nepal and India.

The Indian Ambassador to Nepal highlighted the long-term value of alumni networks in further deepening bilateral relations. The ambassador also underlined the importance of strengthening institutional links in the fields of law, education and academic exchange.

The newly established association is expected to create opportunities for cooperation in legal education, judicial studies, research, exchange of professional experience and engagement among younger generations of legal professionals.

Such institutional networking could also help broaden Nepal–India relations beyond government-to-government engagement by creating sustained links among professional and academic communities in both countries.

According to the Embassy of India, the alumni platform is intended to further institutionalize the longstanding educational and people-to-people ties between Nepal and India in the legal field and contribute to strengthening the broader relationship between the two countries.g
