Khadka Makes Special Appeal for Nepali Congress Unity, Urges Gagan Thapa to Take the Lead

Former Acting President of the Nepali Congress Purna Bahadur Khadka has made a special appeal for the party to resolve its internal disputes and restore full unity.

Expressing his views through a post on social media platform Facebook, Khadka urged party leaders and members to regard the Supreme Court’s decision to grant permission for a review in the dispute over the party’s official legitimacy as an important opportunity to rebuild unity within the Nepali Congress.

Expressing concern over the criticism, exchanges of accusations and unhealthy verbal confrontations taking place among party leaders and members on social media following the court’s order, he called for an immediate end to such practices.

Khadka said Nepal’s national interests, its democratic Constitution and the Nepali Congress itself were passing through one of the weakest and most adverse periods in their history, stressing that further deepening internal divisions would be inappropriate under the present circumstances.

He said complete unity was now the most important requirement for the Nepali Congress and urged responsible leaders and party workers to move forward with a collective spirit by abandoning excessive personal ambition, ego, arrogance, retaliation and frustration.

Addressing party President Gagan Kumar Thapa in particular, Khadka urged him to demonstrate courage and take the lead from the front in efforts to achieve comprehensive unity within the party. He said all other leaders and party workers should be prepared to support such an initiative, while emphasizing that the decisive initiative must come from the party president.

“If the nation survives, multiparty democracy will survive; if democracy survives, the party will survive, and only then will there be a place for us. Otherwise, everything will turn to ashes,” Khadka said.

He appealed to all sides to recognize the seriousness of the current situation, rise above individual interests and work to create an environment of trust, dialogue and unity within the Nepali Congress.
