Trump Appoints Will Scharf as White House Counsel

US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of attorney Will Scharf as Assistant to the President and White House Counsel, effective September 1.

Scharf will replace David Warrington, who is leaving the White House to return to the private sector.

Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, saying Scharf had performed strongly in his current role as White House Staff Secretary. Scharf also serves as chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission.

Scharf previously represented Trump in a number of legal cases and was part of his legal team in matters that reached the US Supreme Court.

Before joining the White House, Scharf served as a federal prosecutor, worked in private legal practice and clerked for two federal appeals court judges. He studied at Princeton University and Harvard Law School.

Trump praised Scharf as a strong and capable lawyer and said he expected him to perform well as White House Counsel.

The White House Counsel is one of the president’s principal legal advisers. The office provides legal guidance to the president and the administration on constitutional and legal matters, including legislation, presidential decisions, pardons, ethics issues and potential conflicts of interest.

Scharf’s appointment marks a significant transition within the senior legal team of the Trump administration.
