Veteran communist leader from Pyuthan and former Constituent Assembly member Deepak KC has died at the age of 85.

KC passed away on Sunday night, according to his son-in-law Resham Bahadur Thapa.

A long-time participant in leftist politics and social movements, KC was widely regarded as a senior and respected public figure in Pyuthan. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly elected in 2008.

In recent years, KC had been struggling with multiple health problems, including heart disease and pneumonia. As his condition deteriorated, he had been receiving treatment at various hospitals in Kathmandu.

According to the family, his final rites will be performed at around noon today on the banks of the Jhimruk River near Kharibot in Pyuthan.

With KC’s passing, Pyuthan’s leftist political and social movement has lost a veteran figure who remained active in public life for decades.
